A skill, or an MCP server?

If you came here looking for a Claude ads skill, you are asking the right question with the word the ecosystem has settled on. It is worth a straight answer, including the part where the two things are not interchangeable.

A skill is a set of instructions. It teaches an assistant how to approach a job — the order to work in, the traps to avoid, what good output looks like. It is very good at that, and it has no reach whatsoever into your accounts. An MCP server is a connection. It is what lets the assistant fetch the figure in the first place.

The difference in one line

A skill changes how the assistant thinks. A server changes what it can see.

Ask a skill-only setup what your cost per conversion was last month and it will do one of two things: tell you it cannot see your account, or produce a plausible number from nothing. The second is worse, and it is the reason this distinction is worth a page.

Which one you need

It depends entirely on whether the answer has to come from your real numbers.

  • Writing ad copy, structuring a launch, learning how an account should be organised — a skill is enough, and a good one is genuinely useful.
  • Anything with a number in the answer — spend, CPA, wasted budget, what changed last fortnight — needs a live connection. No amount of instruction substitutes for the data.
  • Changing something in the account — a negative keyword, a pause, a budget — needs a connection with write access and a confirmation step.

Does Adsnalytic ship a skill?

No. Adsnalytic is the connection — the MCP server that puts Google Ads, Meta and TikTok in front of your assistant, with reads that pass your figures through untouched and writes that wait for your confirmation.

Nothing stops you running both. A skill you have written, or one from Anthropic's own set, sits perfectly well on top of a live connection — and it is a better skill for having real figures underneath it rather than hypotheticals.

What it will not do

Most of the tools only read. They have no ability to change anything at all.

The ones that do write never fire on their own. Your assistant shows you the exact change and the numbers behind it, you say yes, and only then does it run. A recommendation is not an authorisation — the approval is on the costed preview, not on the argument that came before it.

  • New campaigns arrive paused. Nothing serves, and nothing spends, until you switch it on yourself in the platform's own interface.
  • Nothing is ever deleted. The strongest action available is a pause.
  • No approval token carries over to a different plan. One unit of difference voids it.
  • Your figures are read at the moment you ask and passed straight through. There is no database of your campaigns, your spend or your conversions on our side.

If a skill is all you need

Then use a skill, and do not let us sell you a connection you have no use for. The honest test is the one above: does the answer you want have a number in it that only your account knows? If not, you do not need us yet.

Common questions

Is a Claude skill for Google Ads the same as an MCP server?

No. A skill is instructions — it shapes how the assistant approaches the work. An MCP server is a connection to the account itself. A skill cannot read your spend, and a server does not need to be taught your preferences to fetch it. They solve different halves of the problem.

Can a skill read my ad account data?

Not on its own. A skill has no network access to your accounts. If an assistant gives you account figures without a connection in place, it is producing them from nothing — check the source before you act on it.

Do I need both?

You need the connection for anything involving your real numbers. The skill is optional, and worth adding once the figures underneath it are real.

Does Adsnalytic publish a Claude skill?

Not today. Adsnalytic is the MCP server. If that changes, this page will say so — and until it does, treat any skill claiming to be ours as not ours.
